Fabric structure engineering is the process of creation or to build a structure as per the customer requirement. In this process, the manufacturing company has designed the structure as instructed by the clients. Generally, this fabric is used in shade structure like shade sails, Outdoor umbrellas, Cafe umbrellas, etc. These all structures require particular designing as they have to bear all types of climatic changes like harsh sun rays, heavy rain and snowfall.
The process of designing the shade structure requires following steps:
- Find out the required shape of the structure which you want to design, i.e. Cone, Barrel Vault, Folded Plate, a combination of these, or something different. Remember, for a membrane which has an equal stress field, the shape will be like of a soap film for the given boundaries.
- Determine the boundary conditions. Will there be edge cables, ridge or valley cables etc.? Will there be only a hard perimeter of clamping to steel beams
- Determine which software would be used for the design. There are commercially available software packages for form finding of fabric based on the shapes and boundary conditions.
